  What Do You Think About The Police?

  some people are very suspicious of the police.

  some folks value policemen and women.

  i’ve had experience with some.

  As I have mentioned before I have sat on a civilian review board for police actions.

  I have a lot of respect for what they have to deal with - getting called out in the middle of the night to go scrape dead bodies off the road and notify relatives of the death, dealing with people at their absolute worst moments. To see the anguish of the officers when children were hurt or killed is heartbreaking. I have seen officers who do death notifications sit with parents until other relatives arrive, I have seen them search for dogs that escaped from vehicles in a crash so that the parents of the deceased could have the comfort of that animal.

  There are bad ones and they are removed from the force, but the good ones outweigh the bad ones. I wouldn’t want to do that job.

  i often wondered over the years what happened to a lot of the old posters from this group.

  going back to the late 1990s a few of the names i recall...blacksheep, gypsywildcactus (i know she's ok as we're friends on facebook still), onacruise, minimus, veniceit, flower, prisca, bendrr, refinersfire, kent, englishman, shit...dare i say it evilforce lol, snittlesnacks (what a twat), scully, mouthy, talesin from nova scotia, xenawarrior.

  littletom (from glasgow in scotland), outlaw, goaty, bisous, uncle brucey (australian character who loved his wildkife photography) - struggling now to remember more names.i know there are many more.

  I’ve been around for 14 years - I remember chatting with Sassy and Valis way back when. I don’t think I would have ever mentally gotten away from the JW’s if not for this board.

  several days ago i was waiting at the deli for the next batch of fried chicken when a man in his sixties came in.

  Convention 2019: Children told don't form emotional attachment to pets!

  i have just heard from a visitor to the jehovah's witnesses convention for 2019, that they have been told; 'not to form an emotional attachment to their pets, as animals don't have feelings anyway'.. well, that should break a few children hearts!👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 🥴 😭 💔.

  This is getting ridiculous - especially because it was aimed at the kids. Isn’t their life already bad enough with everything they can’t do, friends they can’t have, etc. They want the kids ice cream money and now don’t be attached to their animals. 🤦‍♀️

  How do Jehovah's Witnesses get away with lying about the scripture?

  they can edit their own versions to conform to their doctrines but what's stopping people to hand flyers or glue posters with the actual quotes in contradiction to their statements?.

  They lie about everything. If you bring up shunning they claim they don’t do it. If you bring up CSA they claim it’s not an issue and they have always reported it to the police. Bring up the misogyny in the organization they deny it. So it really shouldn’t surprise anyone that they lie about scriptures or teachings.

  Remember when we lodged in private homes at conventions?

  i bring this up now because i haven't seen any postings about that practice because i got out in 1977. when did wt quit soliciting private homes for accomodations?

  or have they stopped?.

  i hated it, but it was the only way we could afford to go.

  I remember as a child staying at private homes for conventions one was a JW family in Canada (father, mother and young son) and the other was an older couple not JWs. It was a different time then......

  i have read extensively about the origins of birthdays, and i still don't get it.

  but it's not what it means today.. even wedding veils were used to ward off the "evil eye".

  I think so if these beliefs are just made up to make the members feel special and different - a way to make it an us a against them environment even in innocent things.

  I had my fair share of crazies, the ones that thought because you said hi when they said hi, you were interested in getting married. On more than one occasion I was greeted with “hi, are you married?”.

  I did date some guys in the religion. One told my father I was “too headstrong”. I had two relationships that were a lot of fun. One - his family was crazy, his dad was an elder and I would stay at their house over night (gasp). We just didn’t go to the meeting when I came to visit. Never had chaperones.

  The second, got out long before I did. In fact that’s why we broke up. We had a lot of fun skiing, going to movies, hanging out. His mother would rent us movies to watch in his bedroom (hah!). We did go to the hall when I visited him and would just tell everyone I was staying at his brother and sister in laws house, so nobody would bitch.

  The best advice I got from my elder father was to not bring anyone I was dating to our hall, and try to avoid the guys hall when possible. What people don’t know they can’t talk about. I got away with a lot that way.

  Ladies First

  i know a lady who says she feels demeaned if a man walks on the outside or opens a door for her or stands aside to let her pass.

  i just think it's good manners.

  being a gentleman has nothing to do with equality in my opinion..

  I am a woman, I work in an executive position for an international company. I always smile and say thank you when someone holds the door for me.

  I have had great success by implementing “if you want to be treated equally you have to act equal.” I was fortunate early in my career to have mentors give me advice on how to successfully navigate being a woman in a male dominated business.

  And for the pay gap, I believe part of it at least at my level, is that women don’t negotiate their compensation packages nearly as often as men do. One of my male mentors told me to never accept the first offer even if I’m happy with it. Negotiating for pay makes me uncomfortable, but I have never had a company reject my counter offer to their salary/benefits-package.
